Downloaded to Installation Failure

Monday, November 3oth was my first official day on board with ALTRES and being introduced to the gaming/software development world. What was I thinking?? This is going to be SUPER! A new set of skills to learn. And, I love learning. Pretty much obsessed.

How did the first 3 days of my internship go? Well…I had mixed emotions ranging from super motivated and excited to Yikes! This is harder than I thought.

The exciting part was connecting with my teammates. Our introductory meetings were a breeze as each of us got more oriented. I learned about our weekly daily schedule, how the timesheets work, AM/PM check-in surveys, and the various platforms/software engines we would be operating (GameDevHq Google/email account, Slack, Unity, GameDevHq Learning Community, and Medium).

Blocker: Found myself stuck and feeling overwhelmed when it came to the installation of Unity 2019.4 LTS version and Visual Studio package. While attempting to install the latest version of Unity and working online simultaneously, I dealt with constant interruption and silent installation fails. On the bright side no problem downloading Unity hub. That was a success! But installing Unity editor was a different story. Lots of times I needed to start over from the beginning. Highly recommend reaching out for help when finding yourself stuck on a problem for more than 20 or 30 minutes. After several failed attempts of troubleshooting, dealing with major tech issues, deleting, reinstalling, researching, recreating a new Unity folder, watching tutorials I conquered and successfully downloaded the program for windows.

Lessons for beginners: Take it slow and steady. Be patient with your progress. It's worth reading the manuals, doing your own research, and asking for help from a fellow teammate when needed.
